"Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit - his actions, his gifts, and his biddings - in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community."
-Catechism of the Catholic Church 1309
Youth preparation for Confirmation is a multi-year process including formation in prayer, religious education, and service. Teens will participate in this formation alongside their peers in the parish community and parents, catechists, and sponsors, who will all witness to living a Catholic life.
Teens preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation will, typically, begin to prepare as they enter their freshman year of high school. They will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation after completing the preparation process, typically in the fall of their junior year.
Through this process, teens will complete hours of service to both their community and to the parish, attend regular faith formation classes either in their schools or through the parish, and attend retreat experiences.
This process is intended to guide teens in furthering their relationships with the Holy Trinity, particularly the Holy Spirit, developing a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, deepening their relationships with their parish community, and growing in love and respect for their neighbors.
If you have any special needs or concerns, or you simply want to talk about the process and what it means to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, we will set up a meeting with any teen(s) and parent(s) interested in discussing the process further.
